A smile makeover is a combination of treatments designed to restore and enhance one’s smile.
No matter how often you brush and floss your teeth, age and genetics can take a toll on them. If you’re looking for a way to improve your smile, you might consider a smile makeover. A smile makeover is a process that can dramatically improve the appearance of your teeth. By combining different procedures such as tooth whitening, dental implants, and veneers, it is possible to achieve the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted. Read on to find out what exactly a smile makeover involves, and if the treatment is right for you…
What does a smile makeover involve?
The dental needs and aesthetic goals of each dental patient different, so if you choose to go ahead with a smile makeover, your specific treatment plan will be tailored to suit you.
Some of the most popular treatments that may be included in a smile makeover include cosmetic and restorative procedures, including:
Teeth whitening
Teeth whitening is a popular and simple treatment that can dramatically improve
the appearance of one’s teeth. The process typically takes two appointments —
first, you will see your dentist for a check-up and clean, and your dentist
will assess your oral health to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for
the whitening treatment.
During your second appointment, your dentist will place a rubber dam to protect
your gums before applying a whitening gel to your teeth. The gel will be
activated by a blue LED light three times at 15-minute intervals. By the end of
your whitening appointment, you can expect your teeth to be eight to ten shades
lighter.
Dental veneers
Dental veneers can transform one’s smile. Made of thin porcelain, dental
veneers are designed to cover the front surface of the teeth and conceal a
range of cosmetic imperfections. They can be used to address chips, gaps,
stains, discolouration, and misalignment.
To place your dental veneers, your dentist will begin by preparing your teeth.
They will shave your teeth to achieve the correct shape and size and to ensure
that the veneers have a suitable surface on which to bond. An impression of the
teeth will then be made — this impression will be used
to fabricate your veneers. When your veneers are ready, they will be bonded
onto the teeth. You can expect a whiter, straighter, more symmetrical smile
once your treatment is complete.
Dental implants
If you are missing one or more teeth and would like to have them replaced as
part of your smile makeover, you might consider dental implants. Dental
implants are considered a permanent solution to tooth loss and can help you
regain the feel, form, and function of your smile.
During the procedure, your dentist will surgically insert a biocompatible titanium implant into the site of tooth loss. This implant, in time, will act as a replacement tooth root. In a process known as osseointegration, the implant will fuse with the jawbone. Your dentist will then attach a crown for a natural-looking result.
